A woman in Tenerife has to pay 3,000 euros for falsely denouncing her ex-boyfriend

The Provincial Court of Tenerife has sentenced a woman to pay 3,000 euros for filing a false complaint against her ex-partner, whom she accused of threatening her twice in the same day, which turned out to be not true.

On both occasions she claims that she had met the man in La Laguna, that he was driving a motorcycle and that he had threatened her. Later, the woman admitted that the person riding the motorbike was wearing a helmet, and she could only recognize him by his eyes, his physical size, and a defect in his shoulder.

Finally, she admitted that she had not seen her ‘abusers’ face, but that she assumed that it was him because "she couldn’t think why anyone else would want to threaten her."

For this reason, the woman went to La Laguna Police Station and filed a denuncia against her ex and requested a restraining order, even though she wasn’t 100% sure it was him who had threatened her.

The man was arrested after voluntarily appearing before the police, and was brought to justice 24 hours later. However, after a short trial, the complaint was dismissed as the Court considered that there was no evidence that the events had happened.

Following the ruling, the man filed a complaint against the woman, who was convicted of filing a false denuncia and fined 3,000 euros.

Several witnesses confirmed that at the time the woman claimed to have been threatened, the man was in a motorcycle club of which he is president, three kilometres away from the alleged scene of the incident, and that on that day he had travelled by car and not by motorbike.
