The Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI) has reported that a new species of sea slug, the Runcina Iangreo Ortea & Moro 2022, has been discovered and registered in Tenerife.
This never seen before species was found on the coast of Igueste in Santa Cruz, between Caleta El Águila and El Roquete, which is part of the Runcinidae family of medium-sized sea slugs, of the genus Runicina.
They belong to the Metazoa kingdom, a natural group closely related to fungi that are characterized by their great capacity for movement, of the Gastropoda class, that first appeared at the beginning of the Cambrian period some 543 million years ago.
