VIDEO: Man being investigated for driving backwards down mountain road

The Guardia Civil are investigating a 43-year-old man wanted for reckless driving on the TF-61 highway, in the municipality of Güímar (Tenerife), after he was reported, and seen in a video online, driving backwards at high speed down the hill to the coast for over 1.5 kilometres.

The investigation began when agents saw the video being shared on different social media platforms, in which you can see how fast the vehicle was travelling in reverse, sometimes zig-zagging into the opposite lane, narrowly avoiding oncoming traffic.

Eventually, the driver pulled in and stopped at a petrol station before he hurt anyone, including himself. As a result of the investigation, the police located and identified the driver, a 43-year-old male, and the vehicle used.

They have been assisted by the Investigation and Analysis Group of the Canary Islands Traffic Sector (GIAT) which has delivered the police report to the Investigating Court in Güímar, so they can obtain an arrest warrant.

In accordance with the current Criminal Code, reckless driving is punished with a prison sentence of six months to two years and a driving ban of between one and six years.

Whether it is a prank for social media or not, this driver is going to find out the hard way that it isn’t worth it.
