Two dead due to kamikaze driver on the GC-1 motorway

A 34-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were killed in a car accident yesterday morning (Sunday) after a head-on collision on the GC-1 motorway in Gran Canaria, because one of the cars involved was travelling in the wrong direction on the southbound carriageway.

The Emergency Services have reported that the tragic accident happened just before 4.30am in the area of Ojos de Garza in Telde, and that both vehicles were speeding and collided head-on.

The two people killed were the drivers and sole occupants of each vehicle, who had to be cut out of their cars by firefighters because they were trapped inside them after the accident.

Despite their best efforts, paramedics couldn’t do anything to save either of them as they both had multiple injuries from the impact and died at the scene.

The Guardia Civil have confirmed that no one else was involved or injured in the accident and have opened an investigation into why one of them was travelling in the wrong direction and what caused the accident.
