Visitors to Lanzarote have a new way to discover Arrecife following the arrival of a fleet of electric tuk-tuks offering guided tours of the capital.
Toke Tuk Canarias has introduced six vehicles in the city, adding Lanzarote to its operations in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The small electric vehicles take passengers on organised excursions, with audio and video information available in several languages to help visitors learn about places of interest along the way.
Tuk-tuks are familiar in destinations across Asia, including Thailand and India, and have become a popular sightseeing option in a growing number of European cities.
Tours must be booked
The company says its Arrecife service is aimed particularly at cruise passengers, although other visitors can also book an excursion.
Unlike a taxi, the tuk-tuks operate on pre-booked tours that return to their starting point. They cannot be hailed in the street for a journey from one location to another.
The company initially has two drivers working in Arrecife and hopes to add more drivers and a receptionist over the coming month.
Visitors interested in a tour should check the operator’s current booking information for available routes, departure times and prices.
