Receptionist among three arrested after €200 stolen from hotel room in Maspalomas

Three people have been arrested after €200 was allegedly stolen from a holidaymaker’s hotel room in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, in a plot police believe involved a receptionist.

The National Police say the employee allegedly supplied a room key to another man staying at the same hotel complex, allowing him to enter the woman’s room during the night.

The money was taken from a suitcase inside the room on 18th September. The two men and a woman were arrested on 27th October.

The investigation began after the holidaymaker reported the missing cash. Detectives in Maspalomas subsequently identified the three suspects, who police believe acted together.

Email allegedly sent posing as the hotel

After the holidaymaker raised a complaint, the female suspect allegedly sent her an email pretending to be from the hotel.

Investigators believe the message was intended to reassure the woman and discourage her from reporting the incident to police.

All three were arrested on suspicion of burglary and brought before the relevant judicial authority after police completed their enquiries.

The arrests formed part of Spain’s Safe Tourism Plan, a police initiative aimed at improving visitor safety.
