Agents of the National Police have successfully prevented a 26-year-old woman from committing suicide by jumping from a tower block window in Los Cristianos, who had the clear intention of ending her life.
They observed how the young Brazilian woman started throwing her clothes and other belongings out of the window into the street several floors below, saying that she was going to jump.
Due to these circumstances, the police called for help from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), as well as for the presence of the Fire Brigade.
After closing the road past the tower block, the police coordinated an operation to ensure the safety of the woman as well as the movement of traffic and pedestrians below, because of her insistence to jump.
Agents that were already stationed outside the woman’s apartment were given the green light to enter the property to talk to her and distract her whilst an extendable ladder was placed leading up to the window by the fire brigade so that if she tried to jump officers were there to stop here.
Fortunately, this tactic wasn’t needed as the officers inside managed to restrain her and prevent her from jumping before she was able to run at the open window.
Once she was secured, health personnel attended to her to check if she had any injuries, and she was transferred to hospital with a police escort where she will be detained and treated accordingly whilst they try and find out the reasons why she wanted to end her life.
