Flight disruptions in Tenerife due to low visibility at the North Airport

Low visibility at Tenerife North Airport this morning (Sunday) has caused several flights to be diverted to alternative airports for safety reasons.

Airport operator AENA issued an alert via its X (formerly Twitter) account, warning of reduced visibility at the airport and advising passengers to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their flights.

Air Traffic Controllers also reported on social media that, in addition to diversions, there had been go-arounds and holding patterns as aircraft awaited improved conditions before landing.

According to AENA sources cited by Europa Press, a total of nine flights were affected. Of these, two flights from Gran Canaria, one from Lanzarote, one from Valencia, three from Madrid, one from Barcelona and one from Bilbao were all diverted to Tenerife South Airport.

Passengers travelling to or from Tenerife North today are advised to monitor updates from their airline and allow extra time for potential disruptions caused by the weather.
