Tenerife Chamber of Commerce begins processing Rental Aid applications

The Chamber of Commerce in Santa Cruz de Tenerife has begun processing applications for long-term let residential housing rental assistance, subsidies which were approved by the Canary Islands Government’s Ministry of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility.

Applications can be submitted in Tenerife, Las Gomera, and El Hierro until August 30th, and in La Palma until September 2nd. The funding for these subsidies comes from the national plan, with €12.55 million allocated for 2024 and 2025 by the State Administration, and an additional €3.76 million provided by the Canary Islands regional government.

The primary aim of these subsidies is to help make it easier for tenants by offering direct financial assistance of up to 50% of their monthly rent, or a maximum of €600 a month, which is increased to €900 a month in ‘stressed’ areas such as municipalities in the south of Tenerife.

You can apply for this aid, either in person at the Canary Housing Institute, or online through the Canary Islands Government's electronic headquarters here.

To qualify for the rental assistance, applicants must meet the following conditions:

- Residency and Age: Must be an adult and a resident of Spain.

- Residency Requirement: Applicants must be registered at the local Town Hall (empadronados) at the address for which they are seeking assistance.

- Income: Annual income for 2023 must not exceed 21,600 euros or three times the Public Indicator of Multiple Effects Income (IPREM), which is 7,200 euros.

- Rental Contract: Applicants must have a rental contract for a residence in the Canary Islands.
