The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has updated its weather forecast for the Canary Islands, warning that strong winds are expected to persist throughout the archipelago.
Tuesday’s outlook includes cloud cover and light rain in some areas, but the most notable factor will be the intensity of the wind, particularly in elevated and exposed regions.
Cloudy skies are forecast for the northern, western and southern slopes of the islands, with a likelihood of light rain in the northeast during the day and in the mid-altitudes of the southwest later in the afternoon. Elsewhere, skies will remain mostly clear.
Temperatures are expected to remain stable, with no significant changes. In Tenerife, the maximum temperature will reach around 21°C, while the minimum in El Hierro will drop to approximately 11°C. In Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, temperatures will range from 17°C to 21°C.
Winds will blow from the northeast at moderate strength, intensifying to strong at times, particularly in the eastern and northwestern extremes, as well as in mountainous areas. Very strong gusts are likely, especially during the early morning and late evening hours.
At sea, northerly or northeasterly winds will reach force 5 or 6 on the Beaufort scale, locally force 7 in the southwest, and temporarily hitting force 7 in the southeast from the afternoon into the night. Rough to very rough seas are expected, with a northerly swell between 3 and 4 metres, easing to 2 or 3 metres by the end of the day.
Island-by-Island Forecast:
In Tenerife, cloud cover will dominate the northern and southwestern slopes, with a chance of light rain in the northeast and in the southwest midlands later in the day. The rest of the island will enjoy mostly clear skies.
On Gran Canaria, the northern half will remain mostly cloudy, with possible light rain throughout the day. In the south, skies will gradually clear during midday hours, although some low-lying areas may retain intermittent clouds.
In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, variable cloud cover is expected in the morning, clearing as the day progresses.
