Provisional imprisonment for suspects in the murder of Laura Gaston in Tenerife

The magistrate of the Court of Instruction Number 1 in Arona has confirmed the provisional imprisonment of two men accused of the murder of Laura Gastón, a 66-year-old Belgian woman who was residing in Callao Salvaje in the south of Tenerife.

The two suspects were apprehended in Belgium over a month ago and are now facing charges of homicide or murder in Tenerife. They appeared before the judge via videoconference from Madrid following their extradition to Spain, according to the communication office of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC).

Laura, and her husband Marc Francis, were reported missing in April. Two weeks later, her body was discovered floating off the coast of Arico with a plastic bag over her head and her legs and one hand dismembered, a grim detail that has shocked the local community and investigators alike.

Adding to the complexity of the case, her husband is still missing, and a third suspect was arrested in the south of Tenerife and placed in provisional detention several weeks ago.

The investigation continues as authorities seek to piece together the circumstances surrounding this heinous crime, and bring all those responsible to justice.
