After days of intense summer heat, temperatures across the Canary Islands are expected to fall slightly today, Friday, according to latest forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). While it will still be hot in many areas, conditions should become a little more comfortable, particularly inland.
Skies will be mostly clear across the archipelago, although a light layer of calima (Saharan dust) is expected at higher altitudes. Despite the slight drop in temperatures, parts of Gran Canaria could still reach 34°C, while overnight temperatures in Fuerteventura are forecast to remain above 25°C, bringing another tropical night.
Moderate northerly winds will continue across the islands, with stronger gusts possible on exposed eastern and western coasts. In the central peaks of Tenerife, strong northwesterly winds are expected, with the possibility of very strong gusts during the first half of the day before easing later.
At sea, northerly to north-easterly winds of Force 4 to 6 will create moderate to rough conditions, with locally rough seas. More sheltered west, south and south-west coasts will see lighter variable winds and calmer waters.
Island-by-island forecasts for Friday 10th July 2026:
Lanzarote
Cloudy intervals are expected early and late in the day, with the chance of light drizzle before brighter spells develop around midday. Temperatures will remain similar or fall slightly, although inland and southern areas could still see highs of around 30°C.
General temperature range: Low of 21°C and high of 27°C.
Fuerteventura
Similar conditions are forecast, with cloud and the possibility of light drizzle during the morning and evening before sunnier skies return. Coastal temperatures will ease slightly, with a more noticeable drop inland. Southern inland areas may still reach 30°C, while stronger winds are expected south of Jandía.
General temperature range: Low of 21°C and high of 27°C.
Gran Canaria
The north will see cloudy periods with the chance of light drizzle early and late in the day, clearing through the middle of the day. Elsewhere, skies will remain mostly sunny. Inland areas can expect the biggest drop in temperatures, although southern and western mid-altitude areas may still reach 34°C. Strong winds are possible on the eastern and far western coasts.
General temperature range: Low of 21°C and high of 27°C.
Tenerife
Northern areas will experience cloud with occasional light drizzle, particularly in the north-east, before clearer skies develop during the afternoon. The south and west will see periods of cloud, while the rest of the island remains mostly clear. Temperatures will fall slightly along the coast and more noticeably inland. Strong northerly winds are expected around the southern slopes of the Anaga massif, while the central peaks could experience very strong northwesterly gusts before conditions improve later in the day.
General temperature range: Low of 22°C and high of 28°C.
Although the worst of the recent heat appears to be easing, visitors and residents are still advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the midday sun, and take extra care in exposed inland areas where temperatures will remain high.
