Residents of Los Cristianos are expressing their distress and concern regarding an issue that has been severely affecting their quality of life on Avenida Juan Carlos I. Residents of El Rincón, Parque Tropical, Paloma Beach, and Playa Graciosa buildings have reported the degradation, unsanitary conditions, and dangers they face due to the occupation of a plot of land owned by a hotel chain and an informal settlement that continues to grow in the area.
Despite numerous pleas from those affected, the hotel company has shown indifference and ignored its legal responsibility to restore cleanliness and fence off the plot.
For several years, residents have been raising their voices to address this worrying situation. However, their pleas to the Arona Council have been fruitless, generating frustration and a sense of abandonment among the inhabitants. Daily, they are forced to witness inappropriate acts, such as individuals relieving themselves on the occupied land, creating an unhealthy and dangerous environment for residents, especially the children in the area.
In addition to this pressing problem, the presence of caravans and campers around the buildings has exacerbated the situation. Many of these visitors do not adhere to public land occupancy regulations, further aggravating the daily inconveniences for residents. Despite numerous calls to the Local Police, the response has been unsatisfactory, leading residents to feel that prohibitions and laws are not being properly enforced.
"We are truly desperate. We never imagined that we would have to invest our savings in a country that seems to be acting like a 'third world' despite being located in a privileged seaside area", said one affected resident.
Concerns are also growing about the increasing construction of shanties in the Guaza mountain area, with nearly a hundred of these substandard dwellings forming true clandestine settlements.
Faced with this alarming situation, residents are calling on the community to join their cause and provide urgent assistance. They request support and concrete measures to address these problems, which are seriously affecting their peace of mind and well-being.
This plea underlines the urgent need for solutions to land occupation and lack of cleanliness issues. It is crucial for the relevant authorities to address this problem urgently and effectively, ensuring the well-being and safety of residents in the area.
