AEMET activates a yellow weather warning in Tenerife

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated a yellow weather warning in Tenerife due to coastal phenomena caused by strong winds. It comes into effect as of 3:00pm this afternoon (Thursday) in the east, south, and west of the Island, and will be in place, at least, until the end of the day.

The public are advised to avoid swimming in the sea unless the flags on the beaches allow it, as there will be a strong swell and large waves in non-sheltered areas. Also, to stay away from rocky areas, promenades, natural pools, and areas where they could easily get ‘dragged’ into the water by large waves.

According to AEMET, there will be a strong wind from the northeast with gusts exceeding 70 kilometres per hour at coasts, and up to 90km/h at altitude.

As in previous days, there is a possibility of weak to moderate rains, but these will mainly be in the north and inland areas of the island.
