Huge queues in Santa Cruz at the opening of controversial waffle shop!

The opening of La Pollería in Santa Cruz de Tenerife this weekend, had a warm welcome from locals who showed their expectation and interest in these popular waffles shaped like genitalia, with long queues along Calle Villalba Hervás in the centre of the city.

The creator of this controversial company, which has now been converted into a franchise, is Pedro Bauerbaum, a young man from Tenerife who opened his first shop in the popular neighbourhood of Chueca in Madrid in December 2019.

Many would have thought that his timing was very unfortunate due to the global pandemic that started just a few months later, but it caused a sensation online which he capitalised on, and has now opened seven outlets and has more than 80,000 followers on social media.

Huge queues in Santa Cruz at the opening of controversial waffle shop!

The opening in Santa Cruz was announced for Saturday afternoon and dozens of people flocked to the establishment to try the "pollofres", a 17 centimetre long penis shaped waffle which can be accompanied with nutella, petit suisse, vanilla or dark chocolate toppings.

The 'pollofres' can be purchased from €3.80, choosing between different 'toppings' and, although at the beginning, some clients could show some kind of modesty when consuming them on the streets, it was something temporary.

Tasting it and showing it to the world through an image that, quite possibly, will end up displayed on a social network or shared with friends through WhatsApp, is part of what La Pollería offers; product and experience for shameless customers.
