Following the weekly review of the epidemiological data at the Governing Council meeting yesterday (Thursday), the Government spokesperson, Julio Pérez, confirmed that the alert Level 4 restrictions for Covid in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and Level 3 for Gran Canaria are extended until at least February 8th.
In both cases, this extension is due to the unfavourable evolution of the sanitary and epidemiological indicators in the islands.
Tenerife, Fuerteventura and El Hierro will also remain at Level 2 alert for another week, because the evolution of the pandemic in these three islands is favourable enough to stay in the level they are in, but not good enough to go to Level 1.
La Gomera and La Palma remain at alert Level 1 as they have the most favourable data of all the islands. At the moment La Gomera is Covid-free and doesn’t have any active cases of the virus, and La Palma has only three. Both are in a stable phase of the pandemic.
The General Directorate of Public Health and Sports announced that they have decided to soften the measures and restrictions in relation to the basic sports in the islands that are in Level 1 and Level 2 alert, meaning that non-federated sports can resume.
Perez confirmed that practice of team sports is permitted at these two Levels, regardless of whether the number of participants exceeds ten people.
On the other hand, contact sports, that is, those that require continuous interpersonal physical contact with the opponent, will not be allowed at any of the alert levels. This means that wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, MMA, and any martial arts, still have no date of return to activity.
On the islands at Level 3 and 4 (Gran Canaria and Lanzarote) the prohibition is maintained for those sports in which the interpersonal distance of 2 metres cannot be maintained and a number of participants greater than four or six people is required. Training and physical activity may be carried out in which the above distance is guaranteed and the maximum number of athletes specified in advance is respected.
