Covid testing centres are going in five Canary Island airports

The Spanish airport management company, Aena, has awarded space to locate diagnostic testing clinics for outbound passengers at 15 airports in Spain, five of which are here in the Canary Islands.

The airports that will be having test centres are:
- Madrid
- Barcelona
- Málaga
- Alicante
- Valencia
- Seville
- Bilbao
- Palma de Mallorca
- Ibiza
- Menorca
- Tenerife South
- Gran Canaria
- Fuerteventura
- Lanzarote
- La Palma.

Aena confirmed earlier today that the centres will be located in departure areas for passengers who need them at their destination airport. They are not for people landing at these airports, who have to bring a test with them to pass health controls. This means that to access one of these airport test centres to have a test it will be necessary to have a boarding pass, since access is restricted to passengers only.

The contract for these centres is for 6 months initially with the possibility of an extension until December 31st 2021, and PCR, rapid antigen and TMA tests will all be available.

The test centres will have an area for conducting the test, a waiting area, and isolation areas, and must preserve the privacy of the passenger at all times. If a positive result is detected after carrying out a diagnostic test, the health alert protocols established by the health authorities of the autonomous communities will be activated.

AENA DEMANDS THAT THE PRICES "ARE NOT ABUSIVE"
Aena has stipulated in the agreement that the price of the tests be competitive and fair, it cannot be abusive and it cannot, in any case, be higher than the price of the same tests or services in reference establishments.

"In fact, the companies that will be carrying out the tests have made big discount in the prices of the tests, which will be updated every month", explained Aena.
