The local authorities in Gran Canaria have announced an important emergency drill scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, September 26th, and are urging both holidaymakers and residents to stay informed.
The initiative, led by Turismo de Canarias, aims to ensure that everyone on the island is aware of the simulated emergency and understands that it is a test of the alert system, not a real situation.
As part of the drill, all mobile phones on the island, whether belonging to residents or visitors, will receive an emergency alert during the exercise, at any time between 10:00am and 12:00pm on September 26th.
A loud alert will appear on the screen of every phone, and the sound will stop once the user presses "ACCEPT." If the phone’s language is set to something other than Spanish, the notification will automatically appear in English.
Tourism officials have issued this prior warning to avoid panic, ensuring the public, especially tourists, are well-prepared and know that the drill is simply a test of the island’s Es-Alert emergency notification system.
This exercise is part of broader efforts to improve emergency preparedness and coordination on the island, ensuring that the local and tourist populations can be quickly informed in the event of a real emergency situation.
