Drug deal in broad daylight leads to arrest in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria

A man has been arrested for drug dealing in the busy tourist town of Puerto Rico (Gran Canaria) after officers from the Guardia Civil witnessed a suspected drug transaction taking place in broad daylight near the port area.

The incident occurred during a routine patrol targeting street-level drug activity around leisure venues, part of a wider operation to keep tourist areas in the Canary Islands safe and free from the influence of narcotics.

Caught in the Act

According to the Guardia Civil, officers spotted two people exchanging what appeared to be drugs for cash. The patrol approached the scene carefully to avoid alerting the suspects, then intervened at the right moment.

Upon inspection, one man — identified as the buyer — was found carrying a small white packet, while the other — believed to be the seller — held another packet containing two doses of a substance resembling cocaine, prepared for street sale. A €50 note was also seized, believed to be part of the payment.

The seller was arrested on suspicion of a drug dealing offence, and the buyer was formally identified to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Local Drug Point Shut Down

Thanks to the quick action of the patrol unit, officers were able to disrupt what they believe was an active point of sale for drugs in the Puerto Rico area. While only a small quantity of drugs was seized, the Guardia Civil stressed the importance of such interventions in tackling broader issues of public health and safety in tourist zones.

The arrested man has been handed over to the San Bartolomé de Tirajana court, along with the evidence and case report.
