The Corralejo Ferris wheel hailed as a major new tourist attraction for Fuerteventura, seems to have lost steam due to the lack of interest shown in the project by potential investors, according to the La Oliva City Council.
The tender, published at the beginning of March, for the construction of a wheel up to 55 metres high with amazing views over the Natural Park of the Corralejo sand dunes, the islet of Lobos, and the island of Lanzarote, has been declared "deserted".
The town hall has confirmed that they only received one offer of investment, which was discarded because the documents provided did not comply with the detailed requirements and specifications in the tender, nor did they supply a management or exploitation project.
The budget for the tender was 640,000 euros and included the "administrative concession for the private use of municipally owned land for the installation, operation and conservation of a Ferris wheel".
The project called for the construction of a panoramic Ferris wheel between 40 and 55 meters high, with closed cabins and rigorous security and accessibility systems, as well as air conditioning.
There is no indication as to where the proposed project goes from here.
