The south of Gran Canaria is welcoming a boom in tourism this Easter, with thousands flocking to the island for some winter sun after two years of restrictions and pandemic. The beaches, promenades, and bars and restaurants of Meloneras and Playa del Inglés looked as they did before Covid came along people are taking advantage of the good weather in the resorts.
In addition, it is not ruled out that hotels will be hanging ‘full’ signs, according to the Minister of Tourism for Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo, in an interview with Canarias7 newspaper, where he was very pleased with the tourism figures for Semana Santa and hopeful that this is the sign of things to come.
The evolution and figures of the sector in recent months indicate that the Canary Islands will once again recover pre-pandemic tourist numbers this spring with 90% occupancy in tourist accommodation and that this trend will continue during the summer season.
"Everything points to the fact that this may be the moment of full recovery because mobility in Europe has been normalized," Álamo said in the interview.
The lifting of restrictions will see the return of festivals and concerts in the south of Gran Canaria, and massive events such as Pride and Carnival during the summer season, the future water park and the gastronomic offer, of continuous growth, will make the island once again become one of the favourite destinations for holidaymakers across Europe.
