The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government, based on advice from the State Meteorological Agency, has declared an alert situation for coastal phenomena along the southeast coast of Tenerife today, where force 8 winds are expected.
Specifically, it is expected that there will be winds of 62 to 74 kilometres per hour offshore that will start tonight from 9:00pm until early tomorrow (Monday) morning.
In this situation, the Government recommends that people who live near the coast protect their homes from a possible invasion of seawater, and that members of the public avoid going to the end of piers or breakwaters, avoid fishing in risk areas, and drive on roads too near to the seafront.
They have also warned against bathing and swimming on red flag beaches, and to avoid doing water sports or nautical activities near the alert zone, and in general to stay away from the sea.
The Government has also advised boat owners to secure their mooring in a sheltered location in this area, as there will be strong winds, big waves, and rough seas.
