Petition against the car park. Adeje residents want your help to save the park.

The community of the area around Puerto Colón have announced, via DIGITAL SUR, that they are forming a petition and collecting signatures to protest against the destruction of the park on Avenida Colon, the road which leads down from San Eugenio to Puerto Colón in the south of Tenerife.

This is the second time in 15 years that residents are grouping together against the construction of a 5-story underground car park after the park, which is the last ‘green’ space in the area, was fenced off in August and a sign went up informing of the car park project.

According to local residents, a municipal gardener told them that "he had been ordered him to cut off the watering system to the plants and that he believed that machines would come to start removing the trees in the next few days."

According to the latest information provided by the Adeje Council a few days ago, they declared that there was an open file on this case involving the construction project at the Puerto Colón Park, which will be resolved in the next few weeks.

These reasons are why a petition has started, and you can sign it here: https://www.change.org/p/salvar-parque-de-puerto-colon-y-arboles-centenarios

At the time of publication, there are only 657 signatures on it, so they need your support if you are against the destruction of the park so that the Adeje town hall takes notice.

The main reasons why the local community are against the new car park are because the park is the only large garden area left in San Eugenio, and because there are four other car parks nearby that always have spaces in CC San Eugenio, CC Terranova in front of La Pinta, under Hotel La Niña, and two in Puerto Colon marina itself.

The petition states: “This project, which will take at least 2 years, will mean more than 24 months of noise and pollution, in addition to the destruction of these beautiful trees and a peaceful zone for animals, birds, children, and residents of the area. It is absolutely ridiculous to destroy our park for yet another car park, the area has more than enough"
