Part of the GC-1 motorway closed from Sunday for bridge repairs

A section of the GC-1 motorway in Gran Canaria will be closed to traffic from 11:00pm tomorrow night (Sunday), to allow work to four pedestrian foot bridges.

The work, being overseen by the Cabildos Department of Public Works, Infrastructure, Architecture, and Housing, is necessary to address structural deterioration and ensure the continued functionality of the crossings in the municipality of Telde.

The Cabildo has confirmed that the closures will take place over several weeks, strictly during night-time hours from Sunday to Thursday for the work to be carried out.

The work falls under the contract Repair of Pedestrian Bridges on the GC-1, P.K. 7+300; P.K. 7+800; P.K. 9+100 and P.K. 10+380, which has been awarded to Freyssinet for a total of €1.5 million.

The first closure will affect a stretch of approximately one kilometre and will be in effect from 11:00pm on Sunday night until 6:00am Monday morning. This phase focuses on repairs to the pedestrian bridges at La Pardilla and La Estrella, necessitating the closure of the motorway in the southbound direction.

For drivers affected by the closure, an alternative route has been established via the GC-101, directing traffic along the La Pardilla road to the Makro roundabout, where vehicles can rejoin the motorway.

The repairs will initially be carried out on the southern half of the pedestrian bridges, allowing the northbound lanes towards the capital to remain open. However, in the coming weeks, work will shift to the remaining half of the bridges, at which point the motorway will be closed in the northbound direction.
