Emergency services carried out a late-night rescue operation yesterday (Sunday) after a hiker was injured while walking in a mountainous area near Puerto Calero in southern Lanzarote.
The alert was raised shortly after 9.30pm, prompting a response from firefighters, Local Police officers and paramedics in Yaiza.
According to the Lanzarote Emergency and Security Consortium, the injured walker had suffered a leg injury while on a path running from the Secrets Lanzarote Resort towards Playa Quemada.
Firefighters travelled to the area in two 4x4 rescue vehicles, where Local Police and Canary Islands Emergency Service paramedics were already assisting the hiker.
The casualty was reported to be suffering pain in the left ankle. Paramedics quickly strapped and stabilised the injured ankle to prevent any further damage, before firefighters, assisted by police officers and medical staff, carried the hiker on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance.
After being stabilised, they were taken to hospital for further treatment.
