The weather station at Puerto de Mogán in the south of Gran Canaria, recorded the highest minimum temperature ever registered in Spain during a month of December, with 25.9°C on 16th December 2024.
This extraordinary figure is part of a series of extreme weather values for December released by AEMET yesterday (Tuesday). Notably, two other meteorological stations in the Canary Islands also reported exceptional data.
Among these, the Puerto de la Cruz weather station recorded the highest absolute temperature for December, also on the 16th, reaching 31.5°C. In stark contrast, the lowest maximum temperature of the month was observed in Cap de Vaquéira, Lleida (northeast Spain), where it was -8.3°C on 20th December.
Another standout reading from the Canary Islands was recorded at the Puntagorda station in La Palma. On 23rd December, it registered a daily rainfall total of 123.2 millimetres, marking the highest precipitation level for the month.
