A 45-year-old man has been arrested in Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura, for allegedly trafficking drugs by sending parcels from Gran Canaria via a logistics company.

According to the Policía Nacional, the man was moving illegal substances between the islands, concealing them within packages labelled as legitimate merchandise.

The arrest was made on 31st July following a joint operation between the Drug Squad of the Puerto del Rosario police station and the Drugs and Organised Crime Unit (UDYCO) in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Investigators had been monitoring the suspect after identifying suspicious parcel activities linked to his name.

Police observed the man collecting a package from a delivery depot in Fuerteventura before getting into a rental car and driving off. He was soon intercepted by officers, who carried out a search of the vehicle.

During the inspection, they discovered two packages of cocaine hidden beneath the front passenger seat, along with €100 in cash concealed in a handbag.

The man was immediately taken into custody and brought before the appropriate judicial authorities to face charges related to drug trafficking.
