The National Police have arrested a 43-year-old man at the Tenerife North Airport after he was caught travelling using someone else’s passport, after arriving on a flight from Alicante.
According to the police report, he was identified by the border control agents, in collaboration with the Guardia Civil, as initially, he said he had no documentation, which doesn’t make sense as he wouldn’t have been able to board the plane in the first place.
The man, of Nigerian origin, claimed to have only used his mobile phone with a digital copy of the airline ticket on it to travel. Faced with this situation, agents asked him for ID so that they could cross-check it with the police databases as they had suspicions about his identity.
Finally, the agents found an original passport among his belongings in the name of another person, also of Nigerian origin, which did not match the physical appearance of the detainee.
Apparently, the man had travelled posing as the other person and had managed to board the plane, but this now led to his arrest. The man finally proved his real identity and was passed to the judicial authorities, for an extradition order to be initiated due to his irregular status in Spain.
