Two machete-wielding thugs have been arrested after a terrifying armed robbery in the popular resort of Morro Jable, Fuerteventura, that saw a luxury Rolex snatched in broad daylight.
The daring raid took place on 16th April when two unsuspecting victims were ambushed by the masked attackers, who threatened them with a huge machete before making off with a Rolex watch worth a staggering €32,000.
Both victims were left injured during the assault and required emergency medical treatment at the Morro Jable Health Centre.
Police said one of the assailants had gone to great lengths to cover his identity, pulling a hood tightly over his face during the violent attack.
The Guardia Civil launched a rapid investigation after a tip-off from the Emergency Services Coordination Centre, and it wasn't long before officers tracked down the culprits.
One man was arrested in Morro Jable, located within the municipality of Pájara, while his alleged accomplice was captured shortly afterwards in Caleta de Fuste, Antigua. Officers also recovered the machete used in the attack.
Both suspects have since been brought before a duty court in Puerto del Rosario, facing a catalogue of charges, with police handing over a mountain of evidence.
In a dramatic twist, investigators revealed that one of the men is also suspected of involvement in a separate theft in Caleta de Fuste just days before the brutal Rolex robbery.
The arrests have brought a huge sigh of relief to the local community, which had been left rattled by the violent attack in one of Fuerteventura’s most popular tourist hotspots.
