A tragic incident occurred on Saturday when a female cyclist lost her life after falling down a ravine on her bike from a height of approximately six metres in the Las Peñitas area of Betancuria, Fuerteventura.
According to reports from the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES), the alert for the accident was received from a location that proved to be difficult to access, so a GES rescue helicopter was dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel determined that the victim had sustained a severe head injury. She was subsequently airlifted to the helipad at the Fuerteventura General Hospital in Puerto Rosario, where she unfortunately died from the injuries that were deemed incompatible with life.
The age and identification of the deceased has been withheld at this moment, and an investigation into the incident has been handed over to the Guardia Civil and the Local Police, who will proceed with the necessary formalities.
