Earlier today, Thursday, November 2nd, the first scheduled flight from London Gatwick operated by British Airways landed at Fuerteventura Airport, marking the start of a twice-weekly service on Thursdays and Sundays.
This service will be expanded to include a third weekly flight from February next year, further enhancing connectivity with the British tourist market, offering a range of fare options.
The Fuerteventura Tourism Board warmly welcomed the inaugural flight of this prestigious airline, along with the staff from the recently opened Tourist Information Office, situated in the arrivals area at the airport. They provided promotional materials for Fuerteventura and specific information to British journalists covering the inaugural flight.
Lola García, the President of the Cabildo, emphasized the importance of welcoming new airlines to Fuerteventura, as they reinforce already established markets, particularly from the UK.
Meanwhile, Marlene Figueroa, the Tourism Councillor, highlighted the significance of this connection, which is one of Fuerteventura's key strategic priorities for the upcoming winter. She mentioned that "in the coming weeks and months, significant joint promotional activities will be carried out with the British airline and its tour operator division, BA Holidays, with the aim of expanding our market share."
She also revealed that a specific strategy has been in the works for several months to engage with the British market, and a meeting is scheduled at the upcoming World Travel Market (WTM) in London next week, where collaboration plans between the Tourism Board and the British airline will be finalized to solidify the route and flight frequencies for the next few years, offering security and assurances to the sector for upcoming seasonal contracts.
