Bars and restaurants in the Canary Islands can apply for energy efficiency grants

The government has set a deadline of August 15th for businesses to apply for subsidies to finance energy efficiency projects in non-accommodation tourism SMEs located in the Canary Islands, which includes bars, restaurants, cafeterias, active tourism companies, excursions, travel agencies, etc.

These grants have a budget of 9 million euros and can cover up to 95% of the investment in projects that reduce final energy consumption and CO2 emissions through energy savings, improved energy efficiency, and the use of renewable energies.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, the beneficiary companies must be registered in the General Tourist Registry of the Canary Islands, and projects must have a minimum investment of 1,000 euros and a maximum of 200,000 euros, and must be executed before July 15th, 2023.

Qualifying businesses can also apply for grants to subsidize previous actions and installations carried out since January 1st, 2022.

These subsidies are financed 100% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) from the Recovery Aid Fund for Cohesion and the Territories of Europe (REACT-EU) in response to the crisis caused by the COVID pandemic and its social consequences, and to prepare for a green, digital, and resilient recovery of the economy.

Turismo de Canarias has established that the processing of these grants is done by non-competitive concurrence, so they are being given on a first come basis until the fund runs out, to speed up the process of distributing the subsidies.

ELIGIBLE ACTIONS:
This program allows SMEs to carry out projects to improve energy efficiency in heating, cooling, air conditioning, ventilation, and sanitary hot water installations, as well as in lighting, kitchen equipment, industrial refrigeration, laundry, and washing.

Other actions that are included are ones that reduce the final energy consumption and the carbon dioxide emissions necessary to comply with energy saving and efficiency measures.
