Applications for Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa are now open

Remote workers are now eligible to head to Spain, including the Canary Islands, and legally work for clients and companies located outside the country after Spanish authorities confirmed that applications for Digital Nomad visas are officially open after being approved by the Spanish Government this week.

The visa process is part of Spain’s Start-Up act which was officially approved by the Council of Ministers, which contains all the criteria and requirements needed to be eligible to apply for the Digital Nomad Visa, such as proof of minimum monthly income between 2,000 and 3,000 euros.

The government previously announced that the Startup Law intends to eliminate bureaucratic obstacles as well as offer tax incentives, thus facilitating the procedures to encourage the creation and investment in emerging technology-based companies.

In November, the Spanish Parliament approved new changes for start-ups and digital nomads as part of efforts to reduce Corporation Tax for these categories from 25% to 15% in the first four years of their stay in Spain.

“The Startup Law is one of the major commitments of this legislature and is part of the set of reforms to improve the country’s business climate, along with the Create and Grow Law and the Bankruptcy Law, approved this year,” a statement the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation pointed out.

The spread of the Coronavirus and its new variants led a large number of people to turn their eyes to remote work. In addition, a survey provided previously by Two Tickets to Anywhere noted that there are around 35 million digital nomads in countries worldwide, with the United States as the favourite destination for remote work, and European countries also considered among the world’s most favourite.
