Air traffic controllers share amazing images of planes on their way to the Canaries

As we all know, tourism is the main economic engine for the Canary Islands, particularly highlighted during the pandemic, but despite this, the image shared yesterday by air traffic controllers is still surprising as it shows dozens and dozens of planes bound for the Tenerife and Gran Canaria on a Saturday in February.

At 10.50am yesterday morning, airspace was filled with planes from various different European countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy, and is a sure sign that the tourism sector is starting to recover after two years of pandemic.

As you would expect, not all of the planes are full as yet, due to the time of year and because of restrictions against unvaccinated travellers from the UK, but it is still a positive sign that airlines are operating and have confidence in the islands, when from March 15th 2020 a commercial flight landing in the Canaries was a rare occurrence!

In actual fact, the air traffic controllers weren’t the only ones to pick up on how busy it was, as Flightradar24 tweeted as well saying: "a busy day of flights to and from the Canary Islands".
