Adeje requests €15 million in ERDF funding for Urban Cohesion Plan

Adeje Town Hall has submitted an official request for €15 million in funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to finance a comprehensive Urban Cohesion Plan aimed at transforming key areas of the town centre.

The initiative, which includes twelve projects, focuses on connectivity, sustainability, commercial development, and quality of life in areas such as Las Torres, La Postura, Las Nieves, and Los Olivos.

The project aligns with the Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI) and the 2030 Agenda, with its implementation dependent on approval from the Ministry of Finance.

Transforming Adeje’s Urban Landscape

Mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga emphasised the strategic importance of the initiative, stating:

"This plan aims to strengthen the town’s internal cohesion through key interventions in infrastructure, mobility, and commercial revitalisation. It also includes cultural and community initiatives to improve living conditions in these neighbourhoods. We believe the project meets all the requirements for the funding call, and we are confident that we will be able to access European funding for its development."

He further explained that while these projects are part of Adeje’s long-term urban development strategy, their execution speed will depend on securing external funding.

With many municipalities across Europe applying for ERDF support, Adeje is optimistic that the advanced stage and feasibility of its proposals will help secure the necessary funds.

Key Initiatives Under the Urban Cohesion Plan

The proposal encompasses several areas of improvement:

  • Infrastructure and Mobility: Upgrades to the road network, pavement expansions, and new accessible pedestrian routes to enhance connectivity between urban areas.
  • Energy Efficiency: Modernisation of public lighting systems using energy-efficient technologies to reduce electricity consumption and the carbon footprint.
  • Commercial and Economic Development: Regeneration of key areas to boost local trade, upgrade business zones, and promote the digitalisation of small businesses.
  • Sustainability and Environmental Measures: Creation of new green spaces and recreational areas, implementation of sustainable drainage systems to manage rainwater, and climate adaptation initiatives.
  • Culture and Community Engagement: Renovation of cultural and social facilities to strengthen local identity and encourage community participation. Public involvement will be a crucial aspect of the project to ensure that urban improvements meet residents' needs.

Adeje Town Hall remains committed to enhancing the quality of life for its residents and modernising the town’s infrastructure. If the funding is secured, the Urban Cohesion Plan is set to reshape Adeje’s urban landscape, making it more connected, sustainable, and vibrant.
