The driver of a lorry that was circulating through the capital of Gran Canaria yesterday, faces a fine of 500 euros after shedding its load whilst going around a roundabout in Las Torres because it had only been secured with adhesive gaffer tape.
The incident caused the Avenida Juan Carlos I in Las Palmas to be closed by the Guardia Civil, as the road was covered with the load from the lorry that should have been secured using the correct straps to keep it in place, which was cleared by Cabildo Highway personnel and municipal cleaning personnel.
In addition, Agents of the Traffic Unit will examine the vehicle's tachograph to determine if the driver entered the roundabout with excess speed which would have caused the load to move around in the trailer more than usual.
