The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) activated a yellow warning from midnight last night for winds forecast to exceed 75 kilometres per hour in the east, south and west of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, west and summits in La Palma, and generally in El Hierro and La Gomera. No information has been given yet as to how these winds are expected to affect the ash cloud in La Palma.
The warning for strong winds is in addition to the one already in place for adverse sea conditions and strong waves which came into force yesterday, and both are until midnight on Thursday night.
The warning for dangerous waters affects the east, south and west coast of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, west coast of La Palma and throughout the coast of La Gomera and El Hierro, with waves reaching four metres in height.
The winds will be from the northeast of force 7 offshore in the northwest and southeast of La Palma, north, east and west of El Hierro, north and west of La Gomera, southeast of Tenerife and west and southeast of Gran Canaria.
As for today’s forecast, cloudy skies are expected in all of the islands, especially Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and in the north of Tenerife, Gran Canaria and La Palma, which will clear this afternoon in the most eastern islands.
It is still going to be hot and humid with a haze at altitude, and some light rain is forecast in the north of the islands of greater relief.
