This could affect the Canaries: Supreme Court allows meetings at home with no limit of people

The Supreme Court in the Balearic Islands has annulled the curfew and the limitation of social gatherings at people’s homes, on the basis that they are not proportional taking into account the epidemiological situation in the territory. Currently here in the Canary Islands, house parties or gatherings are limited to six people at level 1 and 2.

According to legal sources speaking to Europa Press, the Supreme Court has ruled that it is not appropriate to authorize these measures based solely on principles of prudence, understanding that the restrictions agreed by the Government Council are not sufficiently justified.

The Court thus dissolves the appeal filed by the Prosecutor's Office against the order of the Superior Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands (TSJIB) that authorized, for the second time, the curfew in the Community, and the limitations on social meetings approved by the Government.

The Court had already authorized similar restrictions on May 7th, but they could not be appealed to the Supreme Court because the state decree that enabled this possibility had not yet entered into force.

The Balearic Government had planned to lift the curfew in the Islands from next weekend between Saturday night and Sunday.
