The spokesperson for the Canary Islands Volcano Institute (Involcan), David Calvo, has said today (Tuesday), that following the increase of lava last night the eruption of the volcano in La Palma "is still going strong" and predicts that the second flow, or ‘tongue’, will reach the sea in the next few hours.
A month after the start of the eruption in the Cumbre Vieja Mountains, Calvo said that a lot of lava material has reached the second stream during the night, so its advance has accelerated, and is now only about 30 metres from the cliff in Tazacorte.
As you can see in the video, the flow is just a pliable, moving, wall of rock, edging its way slowly to the coast, where the chemical reaction will cause gaseous explosions, new emissions, and no doubt further confinement or eviction for more residents in the area.
