Orange beacon lights are a new requirement in case of breakdown from July 1st

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has been encouraging drivers to change emergency triangles for the  V-16 light beacons for some months, and now, from July 1st, they will become an official requirement for use in breakdowns, however, they won’t be imposing fines for not having one, but that will come in with later legislation.

The DGT has determined that the use of the V-16 is now legal, and therefore, it will be possible to take it in your car without the need to continue carrying warning triangles, although it is recommended to carry them in case the lights fail at some point.

If you break down or have a puncture or run out of petrol, the light should be placed on the highest part of the vehicle, allowing maximum visibility of the device by other drivers. This signal indicates that the vehicle has been immobilized.

It is also easier to use and can save lives as you can keep it in your glove box and put it straight on your car roof for an immediate emergency signal, without having to get out the car, put on a hi-vis jacket, and walk down potentially dangerous hard shoulders to place triangles.

The price of the V-16 high intensity led light is not very expensive, around 17-30 euros on Amazon, and it is very easy to find it in the market on many other pages.
