The 50,000 winners of the 200 euro holiday vouchers are drawn today

The 10,000,000 euro holiday campaign for residents of the Canary Islands has been deemed a great success as, by the time it closed at midnight on Monday, more than 130,000 people in the archipelago have registered to win one of 50,000 vouchers of 200 euros towards a break in the islands. Today the winners will be drawn before a public notary.

The Minister of Tourism, Yaiza Castilla, who was behind the campaign to help boost local tourism, said that the participation has “exceeded all expectations in terms of interest and follow-up to qualify for the two types of holiday vouchers.”

The two types of vouchers are redeemable in different ways, one is against accommodation costs directly with the 816 holiday complexes that have signed up for redemption, where the beneficiary will have to contribute another 200 euros towards the total cost, and the other is to be spent at one of the 209 travel agencies involved, with 200 euros against a holiday package.

Winners will receive a personalized email from tomorrow telling them how to accept the prize through a validation, which will ensure the security of the beneficiaries' data at all times, as well as the rest of the useful information to receive the voucher and how to activate it. Some are in virtual form and some are a physical card (like a credit card) which was the decision of entrants upon registration.

After validation the virtual vouchers are ready for immediate use, and the personalised cards will be sent to the winners registered address. All vouchers must be used by the end of the year, and further terms and conditions regarding use, will come with the virtual voucher or card.

GREAT FOR LOCAL TOURISM AND FOR THE PEOPLE:
Castilla pointed out that the interest aroused by this initiative launched by the Ministry of Tourism, through Promotur Turismo de Islas Canarias, demonstrates “the relevance of this campaign, conceived to reactivate the sector when we are still in the midst of fighting the pandemic and with a lot of uncertainty on the part of our main emitting countries”.

The managing director of Promotur Turismo de Islas Canarias, José Juan Lorenzo, highlights "the rapid and efficient technological development that has been carried out in record time to launch the program, to help the tourism sector and help give citizens a well needed few days away."
