The Governing Council will make any changes in alert levels this afternoon

This afternoon the Canary Islands Government will analyze the epidemiological situation and update the levels of risk in any of the islands due to the evolution of the pandemic in an unscheduled Governing Council meeting called purposely for this reason.

In a week where the number of 5,000 daily infections has been exceeded on two consecutive days (Wednesday and Thursday), and where the death toll in the Canary Islands has increased by 33 people since Monday, the worst indicators are in Tenerife, which has 30,631 active cases, of which 29 Covid patients are in ICU and there are 271 hospitalized in wards.

In the case of Gran Canaria, there are 19,406 active cases on the island, of which 30 are critical in ICU and 139 are hospitalized in wards.

Currently, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, and Fuerteventura are all at alert level 3, while the rest of the islands are at level 2, even though all of the islands have contagion rates at extreme risk, although Gran Canaria and, especially, Tenerife present a higher occupancy of ICU beds by Covid patients, one of the main indicators that is now being assessed over and above incidence rates.

A press release is scheduled later this afternoon to announce any level changes.
