Covid update: The Canary Islands add 148 cases and four deaths

The Canary Islands has registered 148 new cases of coronavirus today meaning that 52,590 people have been infected since the pandemic began. They have also verified four Covid related deaths of a 54-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman in Tenerife, both linked to social and family outbreaks, and a 93-year-old man associated with a family outbreak, and a 47-year-old woman in Gran Canaria.

Positive news is that the archipelago has 3,439 active cases today (130 less than yesterday) and they are steadily decreasing as the number of new infections seems to be stabilised. Of these 72 are admitted to ICU, 253 are in hospital wards, and 3,114 are in home isolation. In addition, the Accumulated Incidence IA at 7 days stands at 46.97 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the IA at 14 days at 106.39.

By islands, Tenerife has added 77 cases and has 2,214 still active, whereas Gran Canaria registers 54 new cases with actives dropping below a thousand to 984. Lanzarote has registered 12 new cases, El Hierro 3, Fuerteventura 1, La Palma 1, and La Gomera none.

To date, a total of 1,051,389 PCR tests have been carried out in the Islands, of which 2,962 correspond to the last 24 hours.
