The Canary Islands have registered 256 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, and six Covid related deaths, four in Tenerife and two in Gran Canaria, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health. The data continues to go in the wrong direction with the IA7 for the islands now 66.59, the IA14 is 124.55, and the R rate is above one at 1.07.
The British variant of the coronavirus continues to spread throughout Spain and now accounts for 18.2% of all new cases in the Canary Islands as once again the islands exceed 200. Tenerife had the most new positives in the last 24 hours with 122 detected, and active cases have increased on the island due to only 89 medical discharges.
On the other hand Gran Canaria had 103 new cases registered, but active cases have dropped as there were 176 people medically discharged this morning. In fact the difference in active cases between the two islands is now 635. Fuerteventura had 21 new cases today and Lanzarote 7.
