Following today’s Governing Council meeting, the official spokesman for the Canary Islands Government, Julio Perez, and the Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, confirmed the measures that have been approved in the meeting and will be published in the Boletin Oficial (BOC) for immediate application.
Regarding hospitality in Level 3, the measures agreed in yesterday’s meeting have been confirmed, with a couple of minor alterations following a study of the latest data on the island. Closing time is confirmed at midnight, terraces are confirmed at 75% of capacity with tables of six, and two people may sit at the bar together.
Regarding the use of interiors in hospitality venues, it is confirmed that 40% of capacity with tables of four is permitted regardless, however this can increase to 50% capacity as long as 20% are vaccinated, and tables may be of six people if at least two of them are vaccinated.
All the other points regarding spacing, fines, possible closure, use of masks, and registering clients, have also been approved, and it was emphasized that they will be strict on compliance with increased checks of venues.
This amendment to Level 3 restrictions for hospitality has happened because the TSJC upheld the request of the Hospitality associations of the Canary Islands to suspend the update of prevention measures established by the Government of the Canary Islands on a precautionary basis, which moved Tenerife to alert Level 3 and therefore the closure of the interior of their establishments and the limitation to 50% of the capacity on the terraces.
According to the Chamber, given the increase in the incidence on the island, the closure of premises and the limitation of the terraces "have not been proven as the causes of the contagion problem nor are they expected as solutions," hence they supported the sector.
With regard to alert level changes for the islands, Julio Perez announced that due to the unfavourable evolution of their data, the island of Fuerteventura moves from Level 1 to Level 2, whereas Lanzarote has gone the other way from Level 2 to Level 1 after several weeks of controlling the spread of the virus on the island.
The alert levels for the islands are now as follows:
LEVEL 1: Gran Canaria, Lanzarote (including La Graciosa), La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro.
LEVEL 2: Fuerteventura.
LEVEL 3: Tenerife.
