Two young children were found living in filthy conditions during a police drug raid at a flat in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Officers from the National Police raided the property in the Los Gladiolos area after investigating reports that it was being used to sell cocaine. A man and his partner were arrested during the operation.

Police said there had been regular activity at the flat, with people allegedly arriving with cash and leaving with drugs. After gathering enough evidence, officers got permission from a judge to search the property.

During the raid, officers seized 250 grams of cocaine, drug-cutting substances, hashish and cash believed to be linked to the alleged drug-dealing operation.

The biggest concern for officers, however, was the condition of the home. Two children, aged three and six, were found living inside what police described as extremely unhealthy and unsanitary conditions.

According to investigators, the property was filled with rubbish and had infestations of cockroaches, insects and rodents. Police immediately contacted child protection services and the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.

The children have now been placed under the care of the Canary Islands Government’s child and family services while the investigation continues. One of the two suspects has been remanded in custody.
