A 70-year-old woman tragically lost her life yesterday (Monday) after drowning in Charco del Conde, a popular natural pool located in Valle Gran Rey, a municipality on the island of La Gomera in the Canary Islands.
According to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES), bystanders at the scene pulled the lady from the water after noticing she was floating in the water and found she was in cardiac and respiratory arrest.
Efforts to revive her were immediately undertaken by a doctor and a nurse from the local health centre, who provided emergency medical assistance until the arrival of SUC paramedics.
Unfortunately, despite continued advanced resuscitation efforts by the SUC team, they were unable to revive her and save her life. The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation into the incident.
This unfortunate event adds to the growing number of drowning-related fatalities in the Canary Islands, with 47 lives lost so far this year.
