In a sombre turn of events, it has been reported that a British passenger, whose identity remains undisclosed, tragically passed away during a flight from Tenerife to Glasgow yesterday afternoon (Friday). The incident occurred on TUI flight BY1573, which was en route to the UK when the passenger fell critically ill and suffered a cardiac arrest.
The emergency unfolded shortly after the plane, carrying a full load of passengers, departed from Tenerife. The flight crew promptly transmitted an emergency signal, leading to the decision to divert the aircraft to Madeira.
Approximately 20 minutes after the emergency signal, the plane touched down on the Portuguese island, where emergency crews, comprising paramedics and firefighters, were on standby to meet the aircraft on the tarmac.
Despite the immediate response from emergency personnel, the unfortunate passenger could not be saved, as reported by local sources.
Following the unscheduled landing at Funchal Airport in Madeira at 6:20pm, the aircraft remained on the ground for a considerable period. According to the Portuguese publication dnoticias.pt, the flight resumed its journey at around 9:00pm, after the necessary procedures were completed and authorities assessed the situation.
