The municipality in the Canary Islands giving ‘baby grants’ of up to €1,800 to boost birth rates

The Fuencaliente Town Council, in La Palma, has announced a financial aid scheme for families with newborns, aiming to tackle population decline in the municipality.

Families who have had a baby between 1st January and 31st December 2024 will be eligible for the subsidy.

The grant will provide €1,200 per birth, with the same amount awarded for each child in the case of multiple births. Additionally, families with children who have a disability of 33% or more will receive an increased grant of €1,800.

Who Can Apply?

Eligible applicants include:

  • Parents who are married or registered as civil partners at the municipal or regional level.
  • Single-parent families who reside in Fuencaliente.

Interested families can obtain the grant application guidelines and submission forms from the Town Hall’s Register of Entries or on the official municipal website: fuencalientedelapalma.es.

Supporting Families and Encouraging Settlement

Mayor Gregorio Alonso emphasised that the initiative is designed to help offset the financial burden of welcoming a new family member. "We want Fuencaliente to be an attractive place to live and raise children," he stated.

According to the latest data from the Canarian Institute of Statistics (ISTAC), Fuencaliente's population in 2024 stands at 1,900 residents, making it the least populated municipality in La Palma.
