The days of no liquids in hand luggage on flights are coming to an end

Stansted Airport has been testing new security equipment over the last few months that could simplify traveling, speed up the time taken going through security, and in turn shorten queues at airports, and after evaluating the results, the authorities have decided to give the green light to these changes.

The UK Secretary of State for Transport, Mark Harper, has announced that the current restriction on liquids in hand luggage (100ml) will soon be removed, and that containers with up to two litres of liquid will be allowed to be carried.

In addition, the announced changes will make it possible to go through security without having to remove toiletries and large electrical items from cases or backpacks. Currently, it is not permitted to carry liquids, creams, gels, or toothpaste in containers of more than 100 ml in hand luggage.

The UK has set a deadline of June 2024 for airports to update their security scanners, and this trend is also spreading globally. At the Amsterdam Schiphol and Helsinki airports, it is no longer necessary to separate liquids and laptops from luggage.

The United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has also tested these new devices at fifteen airports, including those in Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego, and Chicago.
